Tennis (Band of the Week)
Tennis are a husband and wife duo originally from Denver. The band was formed when they saved for years to buy a sail boat to sail around the Caribbean. While on this journey they started to make beautiful pop songs. They are intersting couple instead of wedding rings they decided to get matching sheep tatoos (as seenn in the pholo above)

Former guitarist of The Smiths and Modest Mouse teamed up with the great Hans Zimmer to work on the score for the excellent movie Inception.

LIGHTS Acoustic EP
LIGHTS acoustic EP is a perfect example of an artist listening to what the fans want. When LIGHTS debut album The Listening came out she did live chats where she performed some acoustic versions of her songs that the fans went crazy for and demanded more. The EP was completly self recorded and produced by LIGHTS herself in her home studio and proves just how musicly talanted she is. Usually when...
Future Islands (Band of the Week)
Future Islands is a Baltimore based synthpop band. They have a very simplistic and unique sound consisting of synths, bass, and some of the most haunting vocals. With their latest album In Evening Air, the addition of string and the emotional and heartfelt vocals by the lead singer Samuel Herring make up for the lack of drums. All of this adds up to make this release their greatest and one of...
Noveller – Almost Alright (Video)
Noveller is the solo project the lovely Sarah Lipstate formally of Parts & Labor where she makes beautiful noise with her guitar anyway possible. Below is the video for the “single” off her sophomore album Desert Fires. Sarah is multi talented as she also drew the images that flicker during the song.
Moonface - Dreamland EP: marimba and shit-drums
Spencer Krug is the king of the indie community usually releasing multiple projects a year. Not to be out down by his band mate of Swan Lake and friend Dan Bejar’s Bay of Pigs Spencer released the Dreamland EP. The EP is exactly what the titles implies a 20 minute marimba track with some drum machines backing. The fact that the track is 20 minutes is a little deceiving as it could easily...
Destroyer - Bay of Pigs
Destroyer is the solo project of Dan Bejar also of The New Pornographers and Swan Lake. Bay of Pigs is an almost 14 minute long disco track named after the Cuban Missile Crisis but I don’t know how that could be the case. The lyrical content is obscure and exactly what you come to expect from Dan. The vocal delivery is perfect and flows great with the song. A must listen.
All Summer - Kid Cudi, Best Coast, Vampire Weekend
For some reason it always happens where some of my favorite artist get together and colaborate on a song and that exactly what happened on this summer jam. Converse has some marketing scheme where they get some hip indie artist to create a blog worthy song to sell shoes. You can download the song for free at the converse website or watch the hilarious video below.
All Smiles (Free Download)
I will be honest the only reason I listened to All Smiles was because Jim Fairchild was going to replacing Johnny Marr in Modest Mouse while they were on tour. After listening to the album many times i have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and the album even landed on my 10 albums of 2009 list. It has now been a year later and Jim is still touring with Modest Mouse and has now offered up his...
Modest Mouse - Whale Song (Video)
“Whale Song” for Modest Mouse from Bent Image Lab on Vimeo.
*Bonus*
Live video of Modest Mouse performing this song at Outside Lands Festivals. It shocks me every time that they can not only pull of their unique song live but actually make the song better. The energy is unmatched.
Avi Buffalo - What's In It For? (Video)
Going to check out this band live tonight opening for Modest Mouse. The video is very colorful and fun and the song features on of the strangest/funiest lines I’ve heard all year. “You are tiny and your lips are like little pieces of bacon. “
MNDR - I Go Away
Fang Island - Careful Crossers (Video)
Fang Island’s debut album is amazing from start to finish a must listen for 2010. The band is self described as “everybody highfiving” so what more would expect would you expect from a music video than just pure FUN!
